Green Street

For a retired couple, we created a space that harnesses natural daylight and brings Bay views deep into the apartment. We first reconfigured the floor plan, placing a minimal kitchen and the owner’s bathroom in a central core that allows the rest of the spaces to flow into each other unencumbered. Then, we rejiggered the windows, pointing views outward with minimal interruptions.

A subtle, low-contrast material palette gives the space a sense of quietness while allowing rooms to feel larger. Floor-to-ceiling veneer cabinetry lends a lasting solidity, while Italian porcelain floor tile adds understated warmth. On these surfaces, natural light and shadows dance and evolve, changing the quality of the spaces throughout the days and seasons.
